Seems as though Tirerack sleuth-ily released pricing for the Dunlop Direzza ZIII with availability slated for mid-March ’18 (at least for the 255/40/17 tires). The tread-pattern seems awfully familiar, but then again the ZII, ZII*, Maxxis Victra VR1, Nexen SUR4, SUR4G, and theRE71R have all similar tread patterns. When it was released a few years ago, the RE71R was significantly faster than the ZII*, which caused a ton of people to jump ship. The grip battle leading up to Nationals also saw BF-Goodrich release it’s a new tire compound – the Rival S.
Even Nexen eventually joined in with the SUR4, and then later the SUR4G (it’s gripper sibling). We’ve not really heard from Dunlop in terms of updated compound, but are excited to see what the tests yield for the ZIII. If it gives a nod to the ZII*, customers would be rewarded with longer life tires with predictable slip angles.
Pricing for the 255/40/17 seems to be around the $880 for a set before shipping and tax. Largest 18″ Variant is a 285/30/18, and for the 19″ variants it seems as though it’s a 275/35/19.
Will the ZIII keep pace with it’s the once new kid and now king of the hill RE71R?
We’ll just have to wait and find out. One thing is for certain though. I know a few people personally that will flock to this tire as a practice tire if the compound lasts longer than the other brands. We’ll see how things progress.
